Lucid Dreaming Induction: DEILD Technique

One of the many techniques used to learn the art of lucid dreaming is The Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dream, known as the DEILD technique.

DEILD allows you to have multiple lucid dreams each night.  It is sometimes called Dream Chaining, and is a shorter version of the WILD technique.  Information on all lucid dreaming techniques can be found in this tutorial.

Begin the DEILD Technique with Three Steps

Being able to DEILD depends on your ability to learn, or know, the following three things in the exact order.

  1. Have good dream recall, so you won’t forget your dreams.  Good dream recall means remembering 10 dreams each week.
  2. Remain in a dream state as you wake up. While you are dreaming your brain is in the REM phase of sleep, if you move you will exit the dream state… but if you wake up without movement, even without opening your eyes… You should then be able to return to your dream (with lucidity).
  3. Have the ability to wake up as a dream ends.  You can use an alarm to wake you up during the night.  Set it to go off every 3-6 hours.  If you would rather, use autosuggestion.  Develop a mantra and keep repeating it, even throughout the day.  Autosuggestion will help you experience your dream, and make you aware of waking up. “I Will wake up after my dream ends”

Dreaming and Knowing You are Dreaming

Having accomplished the three steps in the DEILD technique a dream will form around you as you enter REM.  The key is waking up after a dream, or the alarm, so you can re-enter the lucid dreaming state and experience more adventures.  If you actually feel any sleep paralysis, it will happen really fast and only last a few seconds.

While waiting to fall asleep, you can select the dream you want to have.  However, you must lay still while thinking about your dream, waiting for it to form. DEILD also allows you to re-enter your dream just by thinking about it.

If you are more tactile, instead of just thinking about your dream, imagine yourself feeling movement, or touching something.

If by any chance you experience false awakenings, just do some reality checks.  This can be normal for many, but does not indicate that you have failed with DEILD.

Transition Stage of the DEILD Technique

When you are transitioning into the dream state, you may feel a full hypnologic experience or a weak hypnologic experience.

Full hypnologic is when you may see flashing lights, feel strong energy waves, or hear a strange noise.

Weak hypnologic is when you feel a vibrating sensation, some noises, and any lights you see will be too soft to identify.

As long as you wake up at the right time and don’t move, you will find the DEILD technique a very successful method.  Because you start this procedure when you are already in a REM cycle, you don’t have to trick your body into falling asleep, and you can easily return to your dreams.

Have a journal ready and prepared.  You will want to enter all of your dreams, even when you wake during the night.  Writing in your Lucid Dream Journal will give you some adventurous reading, and track your successes.

The Difference between DELID and WILD

The DELID technique (dream chaining) is shorter and almost instant while WILD can take up to 30 minutes.
